Presentation by Ecofeminist Author Carol Adams

  • November 6 · 7:00 PM
  • Parkway Ballroom 420 Plemmons Student Union
20131106pic On November 6, 2013 at 7:00 PM there will be a presentation by author Carol Adams on the connections between feminism and our food choices. Ms. Adams will be presenting “The Sexual Politics of Meat” Slide Show in the Parkway Ballroom, 420 Plemmons Student Union on the AppState campus. The slide show provides an ecofeminist analysis of the interconnected oppressions of sexism, racism, and speciesism. The slide show explores the way popular culture presents images of race, gender, and species to further oppressive attitudes. It also suggests forms of resistance against the constructions of individuals, human, or non-human, as “meat.” Carol J. Adams has been an activist on antiviolence issues since the 1970s. She received her Master of Divinity from Yale University Divinity School and is the author of several books, including The Sexual Politics of Meat and Living Among Meat Eaters. There will be a book signing and reception following the presentation.  If you would be willing to bring a vegan dish or plate of “finger food” for the reception, it would be very much appreciated, but of course, not required.  If you can bring food, please leave a comment below.  Many thanks, and hope to see you there!

  • Boone Healing Arts Center

20130324pic1

Join us to watch this important film at the beautiful, brand new Boone Healing Arts Center.  The movie will start promptly at 7:00, followed by a discussion and vegan treats.

A description of the movie from the film’s producers:

“Monsanto’s strong arm tactics, the FDA’s fraudulent policies, and how the USDA ignores a growing health emergency are also laid bare. This sometimes shocking film may change your diet, help you protect your family, and accelerate the consumer tipping point against genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Don’t miss this film!”

Reviews:

“In exposing the bullying and deceit of of the biotech industry, Jeffrey Smith’s mesmerizing film shines a bright light of hope that we can reclaim our health and our food systems. Meticulously documented, thoroughly comprehensive, and rivetingly presented, this is more than an adventure story with intense drama and high stakes. It is in fact one of the most important stories ever told. Watch it and be galvanized, inspired, and engaged. Then tell everyone you know.”
– John Robbins, author of Diet for a New America, Founder and Board Chair Emeritus of EarthSave International

“Genetic Roulette unveils a world most of us have never seen. It raises alarming questions about GMOs, and we deserve answers. For all that you love, hear this message and act now.”
– Frances Moore Lappé, author of Diet for a Small Planet and EcoMind
